The diurnal nonuniformity of the rotation of the earth is studied on the basis of astronomical observations by the International Time Service from 1968 to 1978. The short-term changes of the angular velocity of the earth were calculated by obtaining several clock corrections; the resulting amplitude spectrum is given diagrammatically. The standard fast-Fourier-transformation program was used with the largest number of ordinates 2N=8192; longer series of up to 2N=29,000 are also considered. Tables of the characteristics of the harmonics found, and the diurnal and semidiurnal waves obtained from the data from three observatories are provided.
