We have recently discovered an enormous, high-velocity, lowionization, expanding gas structure which may be associated with the well-known Wolf-Rayet star HD 50896. We detected it using IUE spectra of four stars within 2 of HD 50896 and at a distance of 700-1000 parsecs, suggesting a linear diameter of at least 25 parsecs. The data collected so far exhibit only blue-shifted components which can be interpreted either as a heretofore unknown supernova remnant or an interstellar bubble. HD 50896 is a runaway Wolf-Rayet star widely believed to have a compact companion. If this large structure is related to HD 50896, investigation of its properties is crucial to our understanding of the formation and evolution of binary Wolf-Rayet stars. We propose to obtain high-dispersion spectra for selected stars located both at greater angular distances and behind the high-velocity structure. These additional observations are essential in determing the structure's actual extent, distance and potential connection with HD 50896.
