During a photographic/spectroscopic survey of the plane of the Milky Way for faint UV-excess objects, we have discovered a subset of six 15-16th magnitude stars which defy easy classification. They are all extremely ultraviolet, and show prominent H-beta and H-gamma absorption lines. However, they each completely lack any sign of H-alpha absorption. Explanations of these spectra in terms of composite systems, or light dominated by accretion disks, or as emission perfectly cancelling absorption, all have difficulties. We propose to obtain both short and long wavelength IUE spectra of each of the six, with goals of deriving the energy distribution over a much broader range than currently available, the possible unambiguous detection of a hot component if the systems are composite, and a model-independent derivation of the interstellar extinction through the depth of the 2200 A absorption feature. It seems likely that these objects form a homogeneous and previously unrecognized interesting stellar subgroup.
