New IUE observations of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 4593 revealed variations by a factor 2.3 in 69.7 hr of the intensity of its nuclear continuum at 1450 A. This result sets an upper limit of 2.2 plus or minus 0.3 light days to the diameter of its far UV continuum emitting region, very close to that found for the X-ray source in other low-luminosity Seyfert 1's. In the same time interval, the intensities and the profiles of the main UV emission lines did not vary. These data, together with results obtained previously, are entirely consistent with the hypothesis that a 100 million M-black hole accretes at 4% of its Eddington limit in the nucleus of NGC 4593. Only 3% of the accretion flow is in the form of broad line emitting gas.
