An engineering model double ADR (dADR) with a base temperature of 28mK has been delivered to ESA. This system under went vibration qualification to Ariane 5 levels at sub system level. A base temperature of 28 mK is achieved from 4 K with two ADR stages. Ground testing has been performed via a commercial pulse tube cooler. The delivered system comprises a low current to magnetic field magnet (2.3 Amps for 3 Tesla) and complete magnetic shielding for the detector area and spacecraft. The requirements of magnetic shielding and operation from 4 K resulted in a system of 30 kg. The heat load to the 50 mK stage is dominated by the superconducting heat switch used and gives a hold time of 9 hours. Replacement of this switch within the next few months will increase the 50 mK hold time to 30 hours. This poster gives details of the current system and the next step in the development, due to start in December 2008. The relaxation of the bath temperature from 4 to 2.5 K will result in a much smaller and lighter system. By combining two of these smaller dADRs, forming a tandem system, a continuous 50 mK cooler will be constructed. In addition it will provide a continuous intermediate temperature stage of between 0.3 and1.0 K. As detector development has progressed it has become apparent that a intermediate temperature stage between the 2.5 K and 50 mK is required. By using a tandem configuration operating sequentially a potential cooler failure on one of the dADRs will not result in loss of cooling eliminating the risk of single point failures casing the loss of the cooler and hence the instrument.
