Earth Radiation Belts: Energetic Particles, Earth Radiation Belts: Electrons
Scientific paper
During geomagnetic disturbances during March and April 1979, the authors obtained simultaneous data on the following quantities at altitudes in the outer ionosphere: changes in the geomagnetic field, fluxes of electrons with energies in the range Ee = 0.1 - 2.0 MeV, and the intensities of the magnetic and electric components of the fields of low-frequency radiation at frequencies between 0.1 and 16 kHz. An increase in the electric component of the low-frequency radiation was accompanied by a reduction in the fluxes of energetic electrons with energies of about 1 MeV in the inner radiation belt. A spectral analysis of the simultaneous fluctuations has revealed several characteristic periods in the magnetic field, in the intensity of the low-frequency radiation, and in the fluxes of energetic electrons in the outer radiation belt.
