As measured by the two-point autocorrelation function, the clustering of resolved young stars within several Local Group galaxies is observed to be scale-free above about ten parsecs, with the exception of a transition at several hundred parsecs (approximately the disk scale height). A scale-free correlation function is consistent with either a lack of any statistically well-defined clusters (for example, random or fractal distribution), or with a few well-defined clusters on different scales that do not combine to produce a detectable feature. By examining the properties of individual clusters and associations and comparing them with those produced by random and fractal models, we identify the clusters that are statistically well-defined and assess their impact on the correlation function.
