The molecular ion H3(+) is thought to play a fundamental role in the
chemistry of the interstellar medium. Here, a search for infrared
vibration-rotation lines of H3(+) at 4 microns toward five obscured
infrared objects is reported. Upper limits corresponding to H3+ column
densities of (4-10) x 10 to the 14th/sq cm are found.
