A comparison is conducted between the luminosity functions of galaxies of various Hubble types in the core of the Fornax cluster to those obtained in the core of the Virgo cluster by Sandage et al. (1985). While the galaxy density, velocity dispersion, and X-ray luminosity of the two clusters are very different, few significant differences are noted in the luminosity functions and morphological mix of galaxies; indeed, the ratios of giants to dwarfs and early to late-type galaxies may be identical. The effective surface brightness of early-type galaxies decreases with decreasing luminosity, and the faint end of the luminosity distribution is enhanced at the center of each cluster.
