An attempt is presently made to discriminate among possible scenarios for the evolution of intermediate and low mass stars by studying the color-magnitude diagram and main sequence luminosity function of the LMC's young globular cluster, NGC 1866. A computer code was developed for the construction of synthetic CM diagrams, luminosity functions, integrated magnitudes, and colors in the UBVRI bands as a function of cluster age, chemical composition, initial mass function, and total number of stars. Attention is given to the results obtained in tests of two main schemes for stellar evolution: classical models based on the standard assumption for the extension of convective cores, and models incorporating convective overshoot.
