The paper presents the first evidence for a long term optical color and spectral index variability in the BL Lac source OJ287. Since the large optical outburst in 1972, its B-V color index has changed from 0.36 to 0.7. Most of this change has been slow linear development, but after the outburst in 1983 B-V has changed much faster; from 0.46 in 1983 to 0.7 at present. At the same time the optical spectral index has changed from -0.8 to -2.0. Both B-V and the spectral index show also a correlation with the V magnitude, in the sense that when OJ287 is fainter, B-V is larger and the spectrum steeper.
