The equations of statistical equilibrium are solved for an 11 level helium atom, including radiative and collisional transitions and allowing for self absorption from any level. Calculated triplet line intensities as a function of tau(lambda 10830) are presented in graphical form. The possible importance of photoionization from the n = 2 levels by continuum and resonance line radiation is investigated. New spectrophotometric observations of 3C 120, Mrk 618, NGC 7469, and Mrk 335 are compared to the theoretical results.
