A theoretical examination of the vertical structure of galactic gaseous disks is discussed in light of recent observational studies of external galaxies and of our own galaxy. Both the large scale and fine scale structure of these disks are considered. The unperturbed large scale distribution of the gas of our galaxy and its implications to the galactic mass distribution are examined. The warp observed in NGC 5907 is examined in detail and is found to be consistent with either a tidal or primordial origin. On a fine scale (approximately 100 pc) the two dimensional response of the gas to a spiral density wave is examined. The self gravity of the gas is considered and is shown to be important for average midplane gas densities of over .5 particles per/cucm.
