JHKL photometry of most of the known H-alpha emission stars in the Cha T association is reported, together with 22 other stars chosen at random within the dark cloud region. The measurements of the latter are used to show that the reddening in the 1.2-3.4-micron region is normal and that the infrared excesses in the emission-line stars can equally well be explained by radiation from a hot gaseous envelope or dust emission. The B9.5 Ve star HD 97048 has infrared emission characteristic of a dust shell of about 800 K.
