We extend the work of Jordan etal 2005 (ApJ 634, 1002) in which the half light radii of globular clusters in early type galaxies in the ACS Virgo Cluster Survey (ACSVCS) were studied and a corrected mean half-light radius was suggested as a distance indicator. Here we add the GC systems from early type galaxies in the ACS Fornax Cluster Survey (ACSFCS). This increases the sample size for the study of the dependence of half light radius on other factors and provides greater leverage for calibrating the corrected mean half-light radius as a distance indicator. We find that for giant early type galaxies in Fornax the corrected mean half light radius remains an excellent distance indicator (where the corrections are for correlations of the GC half light radius with GC colour, local galaxy surface brightness at the position of the GC, and host galaxy colour). Assuming a Virgo distance of 16.5 Mpc, we use the corrected mean half light radius of GC systems in Fornax giants to estimate a Fornax distance of 19.2 Mpc. For dwarf early types in Fornax we find a residual correlation of the mean half light radius with host galaxy magnitude which was not present in the dwarfs in Virgo. This biases the Fornax distance estimate low unless corrected for, and may point to a fundamental difference between the dwarfs in the Fornax cluster vs those in Virgo.
