The microstructure of detonation waves is investigated under the conditions expected to obtain in 4- to 8-solar mass degenerate carbon dwarfs. A two-component plasma composed of ions and degenerate electrons is considered, and the case of a high-ion-temperature precursor with subsequent transfer via Coulomb interactions is treated in order to see whether such a nonequilibrium situation can affect the self-consistency of the detonation wave. It is found that, in an actual situation, this more exact treatment does not significantly alter the conditions and conclusions obtained by other authors for a thermal-equilibrium detonation.
