Thanks to the linear relations among radio, infrared and X-ray luminosities of non-active spiral galaxies, we have recently calibrated a new star-formation rate (SFR) indicator based on X-ray luminosity, which is largely unaffected by absorption, and has been tested in both local and high-redshift (z=1) galaxies. Coupled with the deepest Chandra observations of the Chandra Deep Fields, this opens up the possibility to determine the number counts and luminosity function of high-redshift star-forming galaxies. We show how the X-ray number counts are quite well determined in a wide flux interval (-17.5
