Observations of Sgr A* with Millimeter VLBI have the potential to detect periodic structure due to a orbiting hot spot or other mechanism. Using simulations we evaluate several methods of detecting a periodic phase signature in the closure phase of a triangle of baselines in order to find the optimum method in the case of low signal to noise ratio. The methods are also applicable to finding a periodic signature in source polarization from the phase difference between VLBI fringes in the parallel and cross hands of circular polarization on a single baseline.
