Fluxes, blocking coefficients, colors in various photometric systems, and bolometric corrections are computed for an extensive grid of model atmospheres representing metal-deficient and solar-abundance G and K giants. A detailed comparison with different types of observation indicates very good qualitative agreement and, in most cases, satisfactory quantitative agreement. A number of systematic but small discrepancies relative to observations are found, including moderate UV excesses that increase with metal abundance, smaller gravity and abundance sensitivities of CN indices, and discrepant values of the Brorfelde k index. Possible applications of the uvby photometric system in the study of Population II stars are demonstrated.
