To exploit over 100 million stellar objects observed in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), we need to understand the characteristics of stars in the SDSS ugriz filters. While star clusters provide important calibration samples for stellar colors, the regions close to globular clusters are too crowded for the standard SDSS photometric pipeline to process. To complement the SDSS imaging survey, we reduce the SDSS imaging data for crowded cluster fields using the DAOPHOT/ALLFRAME suite of programs, and present photometry and fiducial sequences for 20 globular and open clusters. We then test a new set of theoretical stellar isochrones that have been constructed over a wide range of metallicity. We demonstrate that our models are in satisfactory agreement with the data for [Fe/H] < -0.5, given the current precision of the cluster distance and metallicity estimates. However, models deviate from the data at the bottom of main sequence for solar and super-solar metallicity clusters. We derive distances and ages of several globular clusters with various color indices, and demonstrate the ability of deriving stellar parameters for individual stars and star clusters from multiple color indices in SDSS.
