It is now well established that highly ionised emission line species (sometimes called coronal lines) are often broader than other traditional forbidden lines, and also exhibit blue wings indicative of outflows. We have used photoionisation codes to determine their location and kinematics. This coronal gas appears to be launched from the inner torus, and is quickly accelerated to a terminal velocity of a few 100 km/s. Eventually the outflow is slowed, possibly by the combined gravitational field of stars. This provides us with new clues about the relative influence of the black hole and stellar potentials. Recent IFU observations of near infrared coronal lines in AGN obtained at high spatial resolution, are used to test the model predictions.
