Selected H II regions and dark clouds are investigated for 3.3-GHz ground-state transitions of CH, whose profiles are compared with those of 4829-MHz H2CO and OH transitions. It is found that the strongest CH emission towards Sgr A occurs near zero velocity, and is possibly associated with the radio continuum north of the galactic nucleus. It is suggested that higher densities are required to produce absorption at 3.349 than at 3.335 GHz, due to collisions with H2 molecules in the presence of far-IR radiation. Observations were made in September 1976 with the Parkes 64-m telescope, at a beamwidth of 6.4 arcmin.
