An attempt to detect deuterium line absorption towards the Galactic Center is reported. In the investigation, use was made of a radio telescope which operates at a nominal central frequency of 326.5 MHz. The observations were made during three time periods in November 1975, April 1976, and July 1976. On the basis of the obtained data, it is deduced that the D/H abundance ratio towards Sgr A is less than 0.00027. It is pointed out that this upper limit lies within the range reported by Pasachoff and Cesarsky (1974). According to calculations conducted by Wagoner (1973) and Gott et al. (1974), the obtained upper limit on the D/H ratio would lead to the conclusion that the derived cosmic densities are insufficient to close the universe.
