The paper discusses the original sighting, characteristics and projected
reappearance of Comet Perseid 1862 III Swift-Tuttle. The difficulty of
observing the comet, owing to ignorance of the exact time of
reappearance, is examined together with an ephemeris search program.
Optimal viewing conditions are also discussed.
