A large proportion of the interstellar gas exists in giant molecular clouds (Solomon, 1979). The paper discussed a method of setting an upper bound on the gravitational acceleration in individual clouds and what observations would be required so that this method could be employed to set significant limits on the masses and mass distributions in giant molecular clouds. Attention is given to a discussion of clumps in magnetized clouds.
