Low resolution International Ultraviolet Explorer spectra covering the range 1200 to 3200 A show that the binary zeta And (K 2II) has an emission line spectrum of chromospheric and transition layer lines similar to that observed in stars like lambda And and HR 1099. The underlying continuum flux between 1600 A and 3000 A is due to the K giant. Also in the UV the companion is not visible. The UV lines are typically an order of magnitude stronger than in the otherwise similar lambda and spectrum which indicates that there is more coronal material with T=200,000 K. Si IV 1402/C III 1909 and Si III 1892/C III 1909 ratios yield a transition layer pressure log Ne. T sub e=15.5.
