High resolution spectrograms of alpha Aql (A7V) obtained with the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) satellite in the short and long wavelength regions were taken. Evidence of chromospheric emission in the h and k lines of Mg II was found. The width delta lambda approximately equals 1.4 A fits very closely the linear relationship between the absolute visual magnitude and Mg II emission width. Hydrogen L alpha emission was detected and a flux of 5.58 + or - 1.0 x 100,000 ERG/sq cm sec at the stellar surface was estimated.
