Reverberation mapping has been the most powerful tool for measurement of the structure of AGN broad-line regions and measurement of the masses of black holes in broad-lined active galaxies, and it provides the fundamental calibration for secondary techniques used to estimate black hole masses in distant AGNs. The sample of galaxies having high-quality reverberation data has only increased slowly in recent years, however, because of the logistical difficulty of carrying out the long observing campaigns necessary to measure emission-line and continuum variability in AGNs. In order to expand the sample of nearby AGNs having reverberation data, especially in the low-mass regime, we designed and carried out the Lick AGN Monitoring Project. We selected a sample of 13 nearby Seyfert 1 galaxies having expected H-beta lag times of 3-14 days, and expected black hole masses between 10^6 and 3*10^7 solar masses. Our spectroscopic monitoring campaign consisted of 64 mostly-consecutive nights on the Lick 3-meter Shane telescope in Spring 2008; this represents the largest allocation of nights to a single observing program in a single semester at Lick. Imaging observations were also obtained for photometric monitoring of continuum variability during the campaign. In this contribution, we will describe the survey goals, sample selection, and observational strategy for the reverberation campaign.
