Analysis of a variety of data on cosmic ray electrons, both direct and indirect, gives evidence for an increase of exponent of the energy spectrum between energies below 1 GeV and above 10 GeV. Such a change is greater than expected on the basis of the 'leaky-box' model, for which the change of exponent should be less than or equal to unity. It is possible to restore agreement if the lifetime distribution of electrons (in the absence of energy loss) is similar to that for nuclei as determined by Shapiro and Silberberg (1975).
