The High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), located in the Khomas Highlands of Namibia, continues a vigorous observation program in GeV/TeV astrophysics. After completing the survey of the inner Galaxy, marking the breakthrough in Galactic VHE gamma-ray astronomy by revealing the existence of dozens high-energy gamma-ray emitter of different types, the Galactic Plane Survey has been extended significantly and encompasses most of the first and fourth Galactic quadrants by now. Follow-up observation towards new survey sources, deep exposures on prime galactic and extragalactic VHE candidate sources, and participation in multiwaveband observations characterize the H.E.S.S. observation program in a phase of upgrading the 4-telescope array with a Large Center Telescope. I will review a variety of recent H.E.S.S. results and give an outlook on the 4 + 1 telescope array H.E.S.S. Phase II.
