WMAP is a very successful CMB mission that has mapped the whole sky in 5 millimeter bands. From this data catalogs of nearly 400 point sources have been constructed.
At much shorter wavelengths, WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) will map the whole sky in 4 bands from 3.3 to 23 micron wavelength. The sensitivity should be 500 times better than IRAS in the overlapping bands, and 500,000 times better than DIRBE in the shorter bands. It is expected that WISE will find about 400 million sources. These sources should include the closest stars to the Sun, the most luminous galaxies in the Universe, as well as several hundred thousand asteroids. WISE is expected to launch in November 2009.
