Scientific paper

A cluster lens model as the system of a non-singular isothermal smooth cluster component and a central singular cD galaxy is considered. For definite velocity dispersions and critical angles, it is found that the core radius of the smooth-cluster component can be regarded as a free parameter, and that the total mass of the system decreases along with an increase in the core radius, which is constrained by X-ray observations. The deflection angles, shears, and critical lines are derived for the case when the above-mentioned component and the cD galaxy have individual ellipticities, and the lensed images for various values of the core radius and ellipticity are shown. It is also found that the cD galaxy may play a dominant role in lensing in a model with comparatively large cores.
