It is proposed to apply Hill's lunar theory to the description of the intermediate motion of a satellite along a high near-circular equatorial orbit. The formulas for Hill's variational curve are extended to the case of an oblate earth. The theory proposed holds for short periods of time and makes it possible to consider, in the zeroth approximation, both the second zonal harmonic of the earth's potential and the attraction due to the sun.
