Spectroscopic observations at selected locations of the jovian disk in the spectral region between 6000 and 6600 Å are presented. The longitudinal distribution of the measured equivalent widths of the CH4-6190 Å and NH3-6450 Å bands shows a noticeable decrease toward the limbs of the planet in the equatorial region. A latitudinal asymmetric behaviour in the equivalent width of both bands and a high correlation between them is found. No significant belt/zone contrasts are reported. Simultaneous broad band reflectivity measurements reveal abrupt colour changes in the tropical and temperature regions of the northern hemisphere.
