Far-infared (FIR) data from the IRAS Extragalactic Catalog are used here to obtain correlations between optical (blue) surface brightness and both total FIR-to-optical flux ratio and the infrared (dust) color temperature. The trends are for high surface brightness galaxies to be both more luminous in FIR and warmer. Both correlations can be understood by high surface brightness galaxies having either a high star formation rate or a high space density of stars and dust. Neither high ratios of dust to stars nor galaxies which are generally optically thick can lead to the observed trends.
