The system described in the present paper uses a driven antenna as the sensitive element to measure the vertical electric-field component in the VLF range. Characterized by high sensitivity, the system is well suited for measurements in the field. The noise properties are discussed, and the frequency and amplitude characteristics are presented. Some results obtained with the system are examined.
