Scientific paper

Data for solar cycle 20 and information for the ascending branch of cycle 21 are presented. Five components comprise the 'profile' of the flare. The sum of the five gives the comprehensive flare index (CF). Values of the CFI are derived for flares that are considered to have been well above average in either ionizing, H alpha, or radio frequency radiation.
