A periodicity analysis is presented of the 27-day quasi-periodic variations in cosmic ray intensity and associated Kp index during solar cycle 18 (1944-1953) and compared with those performed for cycles 19 and 20. Daily mean cosmic ray data was obtained with shielded ionization chambers at Huancayo, Peru and Cheltenham, MD, and together with daily sums of the Kp index, analyzed according to the periodicity method of Vercelli, which traces the time history and dynamics of a quasi-periodic variable showing amplitude, period and phase variations. Detailed diagrams are presented of the behavior of the single-oscillation amplitudes for the three cycles, and the generally low correspondence between the cosmic ray and Kp index variations is noted. The temporal variation of the annual amplitude means confirms the discrepancy between the cosmic ray amplitudes and the sunspot Wolf numbers discovered by Venkatesan (1958). Correlation coefficients among the experimental data from different locations are also calculated which show a high degree of correlation among cosmic ray intensities and a low negative correlation between Kp and cosmic ray data.
