Over the past few years a systematic photometric search for variables of the β Cephei type has been made amongst the bright B stars that lie near the instability strip for these variables in β/C0 and β/(u-b)0 versions of the HR diagram. Of the four stars discussed in this paper, only HR 2928 was found to be a β Cep variable. HR4656 did not vary on four successive nights although it has recently been reported to be a very low amplitude β Cep star. HR3462 and 4897 vary with periods of 13.5 and 9.4 hr, respectively, which are too long for the stars to be classed with the normal β Cep variables; they may be ellipsoidal variables.
