A high-dispersion curve-of-growth abundance analysis for the old disk variable star BL Her indicates that the Fe/H abundance ratio is about 0.0, the Ca/Fe abundance ratio is approximately -0.1, and, with considerable uncertainty, the C/Fe abundance ratio is about -0.3. Abundances derived spectroscopically are in agreement with those deduced from uvby-beta photometric measurements. On the basis of photometry and spectroscopy (BL Her) and photometry alone (XX Vir), it is shown that Butler's (1975) calibration of Preston's (1959) RR Lyrae metal-abundance index, delta S, is also valid for the two BL Her stars studied and, by inference, the entire class of short-period population II (or old disk population) Cepheids as well.
