The principal models accounting for the high activity of galactic nuclei (combined energy release of 10 to the 44th - 10 to the 47th erg/s) are briefly discussed. Particular attention is given to the accretion models and electrodynamic models with matter outflow. In accordance with the latter models, particle acceleration and energy loss with radiation occur within the same fields. An example involving the nucleus of the galaxy NGC1275 is presented.
