A morphological and isodensitometric investigation of the galaxy Markarian 314 is carried out using direct photographs obtained with a 2.6-m telescope. Equivalent widths and relative intensities of the observed lines for an electron temperature of 10,000 K are used to calculate the electron density, the abundance of the heavy elements and the masses of the radiating gas. Spectrophotometric results of the bright regions suggest that Markarian 314 is an irregular galaxy and that its bright regions are giant H II regions.
