J, H, K photometry and narrow band infrared photometry of P-alpha in the K (2.2 micron) band are performed for the QSO PKS 0312-77 and for the N galaxy 3C 109, together with IDA spectrophotometry in the optical region. The P-alpha/H-beat ratios for both objects are determined. The infrared continuum of the QSO proves to be variable from a comparison with measurements of this source a year ago. The relatively high values of the P-alpha/H-beta ratios found here indicate that in active nuclei the ratios may deviate more strongly from the classical recombination prediction than might be inferred from previously obtained data.
