The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) energy relaxation process in solar coronae is investigated theoretically and numerically. It is revealed that the minimum energy state of the coronal magnetic field bifurcates into the two different types of solution. We propose a new model that the solar flare is triggered by the transition between these bifurcated states. Three dimensional MHD simulations support the theoretical model.
