High resolution millimeter/sub-mm direct absorption spectroscopic studies have been performed on a variety of alkaline-earth metal monohydroxides, monofluorides, monocyanides, and monoacetylides. Spectroscopic parameters such as rotational, fine structure, and hyperfine terms, including magnetic hyperfine and electric quadrupole constants, have been determined for these species. The constants have been interpreted to deduce the structure and bonding character of the metal-containing species studied, and are compared with theoretical values obtained by ab initio calculations.
