The orbit of 1965-98C (Alouette 2 rocket) has been determined at 51 epochs during 12th-order resonance with the geopotential. After removal of all perturbations except those due to resonance, the variations in inclination and eccentricity have been analyzed in order to determine lumped harmonics in the geopotential of order 12. Only the inclination analysis was successful in providing results which represent an independent check on recent comprehensive geopotential models. The lumped harmonic values obtained are 10(exp 9) bar-C(sup 0, 1 sub 12) = -49.59 +/- 8.25, 10(exp 9) bar-S(sup 0, 1 sub 12) = 42.39 +/- 18.68.
