The aim of this work is to compare a neutron star with an accreted crust and one with a non-accreted crust, and estimate which one is potentially a better source of gravitational waves (i.e. can sustain a larger “mountain”). To do this we present a new formalism, and find that a non-accreted crust can sustain a slightly larger “mountain”. We also discuss the importance of relativistic effects.
