The apparent axial ratio distribution of a complete, distance-limited sample of lenticular and spiral galaxies taken from the RC3 and KK86 catalogs are analyzed to elucidate the intrinsic shapes of disks, in particular, on their possible triaxiality. The intrinsic axial ratios xi is identical to b/a of both lenticulars and spiral galaxies (S0 and SP samples, respectively) span a wide range of values. Although almost round disks are relatively frequent in both classes, a nonnegligible population of strongly triaxial disks is detected. Spiral galaxies belonging to the earlier morphological types (the ETS sample) appear to have, on average, more triaxial disks than late-type spiral galaxies (the LTS sample), from which it is suggested that the shape of the disk is influenced by the relative size of the triaxial bulge component. The late-type population exhibits a clear dichotomy between 'normal' and 'barred' spirals.
