Southern star-forming regions identified by the presence of 1.6-GHz hydroxyl masers have been searched for the presence of methanol using the 6.6-GHz 5(1)-6(0) A(+)-methanol transition. Eighteen masers are detected from a sample of 62 sources, and methanol is seen in absorption towards two positions. Four of the detections are located in the far side of the Carina spiral arm. The 3 sigma detection limit in the search was 1.5 Jy.
