THE Newgale Beds of Pembrokeshire (Fig. 1) have not previously yielded any fossil evidence about their age, and consequently there has been considerable doubt on this matter. On the earliest map of the area1 they are shown as Carboniferous, an interpretation that is retained on the map published by Jones2. On the Geological Survey Map of 19173 they are more specifically identified as Millstone Grit.
